This is my first daily blog about the NBA. I will highlight more on the Houston Rockets as it is my favorite team in the league. However, I will also write about other teams around the league as well in my daily blog.
The Houston Rockets continue their road trip with a blowout victory over the Sacramento Kings at the Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento 104-87. The Rockets improve to 31-25 and now have sole possession of the 6th spot in the Western Conference playoff picture, 0.5 game ahead of the Mavericks and 1.5 game behind the Grizzlies. The Kings who are already out of playoff contention dropped to 19-38.
Courtney Lee led all scorers with 25 points, with 4 steals. Goran Dragic had 15 points and 9 assists. Chase Budinger also had 15 points with 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Luis Scola added 13 points and 8 rebounds, Chandler Parsons and Patrick Patterson scored 10 points. Patterson and Samuel Dalembert each had 10 rebounds. Kyle Lowry returned to the court after missing games due to the bacterial infection he suffered and finished with 7 assists in 17 minutes of playing time.
Former Rocket Terrence Williams led the Kings with 21 points and 8 rebounds, Jimmer Fredette added 17 points, and Isaiah Thomas added 16 points.
In New York, the New York Knicks beat the league leading Chicago Bulls in a overtime thriller at Madison Square Garden 100-99. Carmelo Anthony who nailed the game winning three finished with a season high 43 points with 7 rebounds. Iman Shumpert added 15 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Tyson Chandler pulled down 16 rebounds. Derrick Rose, the reigning MVP who came back after missing 12 games with the groin injury had a 1st half struggle and came back in the 2nd half scoring 22 of his 29 points there, together with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Carlos Boozer had a double-double 13 points and 16 rebounds. Luol Deng also had 13 points and 9 rebounds.
In Boston, the Boston Celtics beat their Atlantic division rivals the Philadelphia 76ers in a blowout at the TD Garden 103-79. Kevin Garnett led the Celtics with 20 points, Avery Bradley and Brandon Bass each had 18 points. Paul Pierce added 17. Rajon Rondo dished out 15 assists. Nikola Vucevic led the 76ers with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Andre Iguodala scored 13 points.
In Newark, the New Jersey Nets beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in overtime at the Prudential Center 122-117. Gerald Green led the Nets with a season high 32 points coming off the bench. Anthony Morrow added 24 points. Deron Williams added 18 points and 10 assists. Antawn Jamison led the Cavaliers with 34 points, Lester Hudson scored 26 points off the bench including the shot that sent the game into overtime.
In Miami, the Miami Heat beat the Detroit Pistons in a blowout at the American Airlines Arena 98-75. LeBron James led the Heat with 26 points, Chris Bosh added 22 points and 9 rebounds. James Jones scored 18 points. The Heat were playing without Dwayne Wade who is out with a sore right ankle. Rookie Brandon Knight led the Pistons with 16 points. Greg Monroe and Rodney Stuckey each added 11 points.
In San Antonio, the San Antonio Spurs beat the Utah Jazz at the AT&T Center 114-104. Tony Parker led the Spurs with 28 points. Manu Ginobili added 23 points off the bench. Tim Duncan finished with a double-double 13 points and 16 rebounds. Al Jefferson led the Jazz with a double-double 19 points and 10 rebounds. Devin Harris added 18 points.
In Oklahoma City, the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Toronto Raptors in a blowout at the Chesapeake Energy Arena 91-75. Kevin Durant led the Thunder with 23 points. James Harden added 17 points off the bench. Russell Westbrook added 15 points. Jose Calderon led the Raptors with 19 points. DeMar DeRozan added 16 points.
