NBA Daily Blog: Rockets fall to the Nuggets at the Mile High City 86-101

The Houston Rockets have suffered their third straight defeat, this time at the hands of another team who is also fighting for playoff positioning out West, the Denver Nuggets at the the Pepsi Center 86-101. The Rockets drop to 8th place at 32-28. While the Nuggets go up into 7th place at 33-27.

The Rockets were led by Luis Scola and Chase Budinger who each scored 19 points. Chandler Parsons added 12 points and 9 rebounds. Goran Dragic also added 12 points with 6 assists.

The Nuggets were led by Ty Lawson and Arron Afflalo who each scored 20 points. Corey Brewer scored 14 off the bench. Rookie Kenneth Faried finished with a double-double 10 points and 11 rebounds. Danilo Gallinari also scored 10 points. Andre Miller dished out 11 assists with 7 rebounds and 6 points.

In New York City, the Miami Heat clinch the Southeast Division title with a victory against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden 93-85. LeBron James led the Heat with a double-double 29 points and 10 rebounds. Dwayne Wade added 28 points and 9 rebounds. Chris Bosh also added a double-double 16 points and 14 rebounds. The Knicks were led by Carmelo Anthony with 42 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. J.R. Smith off the bench added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

In Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Lakers win in overtime against the Dallas Mavericks at Staples Center 112-108. The Lakers who were once again playing without star Kobe Bryant were led by Andrew Bynum with a double-double 23 points and 16 rebounds. Ramon Sessions added 22 points and 5 assists. Pau Gasol also finished with a double-double 20 points and 10 rebounds including 2 three pointers in overtime. Metta World Peace scored 18. Matt Barnes also came up with a double-double 11 points, 11 rebounds with 8 assists. Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavericks with a double-double 24 points and 14 rebounds. Jason Terry scored 21 off the bench. Delonte West scored 20. Jason Kidd added 13 points and 7 assists. Shawn Marion also finished with a double-double 10 points and 11 rebounds.

In Charlotte, the Boston Celtics without their "Big 3" of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen defeat the Charlotte Bobcats who have lost their 16th straight game at the Time Warner Cable Arena 94-82. Brandon Bass led the Celtics with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Avery Bradley also scored 22. Rajon Rondo came up with a double-double 20 points and 16 assists with 6 rebounds. Mickael Pietrus added 11 points and 6 rebounds. Gerald Henderson led the Bobcats with 22 points and 5 assists. Derrick Brown added 15 points and 7 rebounds. D.J. White scored 13. D.J. Augustin dished out 10 asssists.

In Atlanta, the Toronto Raptors pull off an upset against the Atlanta Hawks at Philips Arena 102-86. DeMar DeRozan led the Raptors with 23 points. Rookie Alan Anderson scored 16. James Johnson scored 15 off the bench. Ed Davis, Justin Dentmon and Ben Uzoh each scored 10. Josh Smith led the Hawks with 26 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Willie Green and rookie Ivan Johnson each scored 14 coming off the bench.

In Detroit, the Chicago Bulls win a Central Division showdown against the Detroit Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills 100-94. Derrick Rose led the Bulls with 24 points, 9 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Joakim Noah finished with a double-double 20 points and 17 rebounds with 2 blocks. Carlos Boozer added 15 points and 9 rebounds. Former Piston Richard Hamilton scored 13. Kyle Korver also scored 13 coming off the bench. Rodney Stuckey led the Pistons with 34 points and 3 steals. Greg Monroe, rookie Brandon Knight and Charlie Villanueva each scored 13.

In Cleveland, the Orlando Magic clinch a playoff berth with a win against the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Quicken Loans Arena 100-84. Jameer Nelson led the Magic with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Jason Richardson added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals. J.J. Redick and Earl Clark each scored 13. Daniel Orton added 11 points and 5 steals. Antawn Jamison led the Cavaliers with 21 points. Rookie Donald Sloan scored 15. Alonzo Gee and Manny Harris each scored 10.

In Sacramento, Marcus Thornton nails the game winning three with 3.4 seconds remaining as the Sacramento Kings win in a thriller against the Portland Trail Blazers at the Power Balance Pavilion 104-103. DeMarcus Cousins led the Kings with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Thornton and Tyreke Evans each scored 20. Rookie Isaiah Thomas added 18 points and 8 assists. Wesley Matthews led the Trail Blazers with 31 points. Raymond Felton scored 19. Nicolas Batum scored 14. J.J. Hickson finished with a double-double 10 points and 13 rebounds with 2 blocks.

In New Orleans, the New Orleans Hornets stun the Memphis Grizzlies at the New Orleans Arena 88-75. Eric Gordon led the Hornets with 18 points. Carl Landry off the bench finished with a double-double 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jason Smith also finished with a double-double 14 points and 10 rebounds. Al-Farouq Aminu added 12 points and 7 rebounds. Rudy Gay led the Grizzlies with 24 points. Marc Gasol added 11 points and 7 rebounds. O.J. Mayo also scored 11. Zach Randolph pulled down 13 rebounds.
